Tenkai Keeps WBA Female 115 belt

(by Joe Koizumi - Feb 7, 2010 - 6:55:56 AM)

Busy-punching and fast-moving Tsunami Tenkai (14-3, 4 KOs), 114, very impressively kept her WBA female super-flyweight belt as she swept all rounds with a beautiful display of speed, skills and power in scoring a nearly shutout decision (100-90 twice and 99-91) over game and durable British challenger Shanee Martin (9-5-1, 5 KOs), also 114, over ten fast rounds on Sunday in Kobe, Japan. The referee was Firlin Marsh of New Zealand. Tenkai, a cute 25-year-old Japanese champ, simply stunned the audience who hadn’t seen so many female boxing bouts by showing her excellent form, reflexes, quickness, skills and stamina. Even this reporter previously thought that Tenkai was only a non-stop warrior, but she completely changed her image tonight so that our people realized that we might be proud of Tenkai being the most outstanding female boxer.

Tada-Togashi Draw in Japan!

(by Joe Koizumi - Dec 6, 2009 - 1:05:54 PM)

WBA female minimum champ Etsuko Tada (6-0-1, 2 KOs), 103.75, fought to a split draw with WBC light-fly titlist Naomi Togashi (6-0-1, 4 KOs), 104.75, over ten hard-fought rounds on Sunday in Osaka, Japan. Both belts were at stake as they tipped the beam under the 105-pound minimum limit, but now that neither didn’t win nor lose, they will hold their own belts as previously. Scored: Takeo Harada (Japan) 97-94 for Tada, Silvestre Abainza (Philippines) 96-94 for Togashi and Rey Danseco (Philippines) 95-95. The referee was Yuji Fukuchi (Japan).

Malpartida retains title!

(by Butc Gottlieb - Dec 6, 2009 - 12:56:27 PM)

Saturday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California WBA super featherweight champion Kina Malpartida (11-3, 3 KOs) retained her title with a unanimous decision win over English challenger Lyndsey Scragg (10-2, 3 KOs). Malpartida made what seemed like it should be an easy fight hard by not utilizing her height and reach advantage. Scragg tried to get inside but continuously ate straight right hands from the champion. Scragg finally was able to land a counter left hook and dropped Malpartida in the sixth round but it was too little and the judges scored the fight 98-91, 98-91 ad 97-92 for Malpartida.

Karpency successfully defends belt!

(by wbanews.com - Aug 24, 2009 - 8:40:41 AM)

Light heavyweight contender Tommy Karpency (18-1-1  11kos) successfully defended his WBA Fedecentro Title Friday night in Morgantown, West Virginia via a ten round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Chuck Mussachio (13-1-2  5kos).  Karpency, 23 years old,  controlled the pace early by landing more punches and kept his opponent off balance with several harder shots.  No knockdowns were recorded as Karpency prevailed comfortably on the cards, 100-90, 98-92 and 96-94.  In the co-feature, former WBA#2 lightweight contender, Michael "Cold Blood" Clark (39-5-1 18kos) looked impressive as he posted a six round shutout over durable vet Dezi Ford (24-27 9kos).  Clark's handspeed and overall superior skills enabled him to land effective combinations at will throughout the bout.  All three judges scored the fight 60-54.
