WBA Press. August 21. - The former Heavyweight world champion Nicolai Valuev from Russia, turns 39 years, and the World Boxing Association family sends its warmest greetings.
Nikolai Sergeyevich Valuev was born in St. Petersburg, former Soviet Union, on August 21, 1973.
He made his professional boxing debut in 1993, and when he retired he had accumulated 53 fights winning 50 with 34 knockouts.
His only losses were against the Uzbek Ruslan Chagaev, and the Britain's David Haye.
He was WBA world champion in two opportunities. He won his first title on December 17, 2005 defeating the Puerto Rican John Ruiz by split decision (116-114, 116-113 and 114-114).
He made three defenses of his belt, and lost it against Chagaev on April 14, 2007.
After winning an elimination bout to Siarhei Liakhovich, he got his second title shot. It was the turn of Ruiz, on August 30, 2008, in Berlin. Valuev won by unanimous decision and became world champion again.
He made one more fight in 2008 against Evander Holyfield before losing his belt by decision before Haye.
Valuev is now devoted to politics, with the United Russian party, and works for his city, Kermovo.
He was known not only as a great champion, but also to be the heaviest and tallest boxer in the heavyweight history.

AMB felicita al ex campeón mundial Nicolai Valuev
Prensa AMB. 21 de agosto.- El conocido ex campeón mundial de origen ruso, el pesado Nicolai Valuev, cumple 39 años de haber nacido motivo por el cual la familia de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo manda su más caluroso saludo.
Nicolai Sergeyévich Valuev nació en San Petersburgo, antigua Unión Soviética, el 21 de agosto de 1973.
En el ramo profesional debutó en el año 1993, y acumuló un total de 53 peleas de las cuales ganó 50 de ellas 34 por la vía del nocaut, hasta su momento del retiro en el año 2009.
Sus únicas derrotas fueron ante el uzbeko Ruslan Chagaev, y luego ante el británico David Haye.
Fue dos veces monarca, su primer título de la AMB lo ganó el 17 de diciembre de 2005 cuando le ganó al boricua Jhon Ruiz por decisión dividida de los jueces (116-114, 116-113 y 114-114).
Hizo tres defensas de su cinturón, y perdió el 14 de abril de 2007, frente Chagaev.
Tuvo su segunda oportunidad, después de ganar una pelea eliminatoria a Siarhei Liakhovich. Le tocó el turno nuevamente ante Ruiz, ahora el 30 de agosto de 2008, en Berlín. Valuev se impuso por decisión unánime y se convirtió por segunda vez en campeón mundial.
Hizo una pelea más en el 2008 frente a Evander Holyfield, antes de perder su cinturón por decisión con Haye.
Valuev ahora se dedica a la política, con el partido Rusia Unida, y trabaja por su ciudad, Kermovo.
Fue conocido no sólo por convertirse en un gran campeón, sino además en ser el más pesado y más alto de la historia de todos los pesados.
