REVECO TO DEFEND WBA 112LB BELT IN JAPAN

Juan carlos Reveco

January 13, 2013
TOKYO, JAPAN

WBA flyweight champion Juan Carlos Reveco (29-1, 16 KOs), Argentina, will put his belt on the line against Japanese national 108-pound titlist Masayuki Kuroda (21-3-2, 13 KOs) in Kawasaki city, Japan, on February 27.  Reveco, 29, recently elevated to the regular championship from the interim status since Brian Viloria became the dual-belt champ including the WBA diadem by defeating Hernan Marquez via tenth-round stoppage last November.

Kuroda is making an adventurous crack at the throne as he very barely kept his national belt on all four occasions—twice by a split decision and latest twice by a split draw—since he acquired the vacant Japanese belt by halting Katsuhiro Iezumi in May 2011.  Some insiders say that his severe weight reduction accounted for his lackluster performance and he is a legitimate flyweight with his 5’6” frame.  If true, it may be a good fight hopefully.

Reveco, who tasted his sole setback at the hand of Brahim Asloum to lose his then WBA 108-pound title in 2007, moved up to the 112-pound category and gained his second universal throne by finishing Jean Piero Perez in two quick rounds in June 2011.  He kept his interim belt twice by unanimously outscoring Karim Guerfi and Julian Rivera to his credit.

Reveco, of course, will be a heavy prefight favorite.  Such Argentine world flyweight titlists as Pascual Perez, Horacio Acavallo and Santos Laciar made Japan a good market for them to appreciate good paydays, and Kuroda may try to stop the jinx of Argentine champs successfully defending their belts here.  We just pray a buena suerte (good luck) to Kuroda.
