WBA Press. October 30. The World Boxing Association held its election process for its Presidency, and the Venezuelan Gilberto Mendoza was re-elected by ninth consecutive time and tenth term in general, yesterday, at the Sultan hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The executive will lead the team for the next four-year-period 2012-2016. The election took place during the 91st Annual Convention of the oldest sanctioning organization.
The Golden Ball was the scenario for the voting process. The decision was unanimous with full support of the Assembly registered. A total of 42 votes were tabulated. Twelve countries on five continents, including Venezuela, in addition to Fedecentro, Fedecaribe Fedelatin, Fedebol and 17 members of the Board of the WBA were legally registered.
The Credential Committee composed by Carlos Chávez (Venezuela), Francisco Pina (Colombia), Alberto Sarmiento (Venezuela), Miguel Prado (Panama) and Yang Sup Shim (South Korea) gave the announcement
When proclaimed, Mendoza said: “Thank you for tolerate me and for the vote of confidence you give me. We will continue to work in harmony. We must work diligently, with the objectives we have set for the future. "The most important thing is that there is a much work to be done," said Mendoza at the Golden Ball lounge.
We still have much work to do, and things to innovate, most importantly, to keep on doing it together. "At the next plenary I will announce the team that will be working with me during this new period". He said between applause.
In the last five years, Mendoza overcame throat cancer and a heart attack. He has kept in control all the time, thanks to the good relations he keeps worldwide. During this time, the unrestricted support of continents such as Asia and Europe has been the key.
Mendoza began his presidency on October 7, 1982. His son Gilberto Jesus Mendoza is the current Executive Vice-president.
After the electoral process, the Treasurer Alberto Sarmiento presented his annual report to the Assembly, the accountant David Herrera gave suggestions to improve some aspects related to the payment of the sanction fees. Previously, the contribution in the medical area and its progress was detailed.

Gilberto Mendoza: “Queda mucho trabajo por hacer en la AMB”
Prensa AMB. 30 de octubre.- La Asociación Mundial de Boxeo realizó ayer su proceso de elecciones en el hotel Sultán de Jakarta, Indonesia, para la presidencia del organismo y el venezolano Gilberto Mendoza quedó reelegido por novena vez consecutiva y décimo mandato en general.
El empresario estará al frente por el próximo período de cuatro años, lapso pautado 2012-2016. La designación se hizo efecto en medio de la 91º convención anual del ente más antiguo del boxeo rentado.
El salón Golden Ball fue el escenario para el proceso de votación. La decisión fue unánime y con pleno apoyo de la asamblea registrada. Un total de 42 votos fueron escrutados. Estuvieron inscritos legalmente doce países de los cinco continentes, entre ellos Venezuela, además de Fedecentro, Fedecaribe, Fedelatin, Fedebol, y 17 miembros del directorio de la AMB.
El tren del directorio fue compuesto por Carlos Chávez (Venezuela), Francisco Piña (Colombia), Alberto Sarmiento (Venezuela), Miguel Prado (Panamá), y Yang Sup Shimp (Corea del Sur). Chávez se encargó de presidir y hacer el anuncio.
Mendoza al ser proclamado anunció: “Gracias por seguir tolerándome y por el voto de confianza que me han dado. Continuaremos trabajando en sintonía. Debemos laborar sin descanso, con los objetivos que nos hemos propuesto para el futuro. Lo más importante es que queda mucho trabajo por hacer”, señaló Mendoza en el salón Golden Ball.
“Hay cosas por innovar. Lo más resaltante es seguir haciéndolo juntos. En la próxima sesión les anunciaré el equipo que estará acompañándome durante este nuevo período”, recalcó, entre aplausos.
En el último lustro, Mendoza superó un cáncer de garganta y un infarto. Se ha mantenido longevo en el poder, gracias a las buenas relaciones mundialmente. En ese tiempo, ha sido clave el apoyo irrestricto de continentes como Asia y Europa.
Mendoza inició la gestión el 7 de octubre de 1982. Su hijo Gilberto Jesús Mendoza es el actual vicepresidente ejecutivo.
Luego del proceso electoral, se presentó el informe de tesorería. El venezolano Alberto Sarmiento dio el reporte anual ante el organismo y el contable venezolano David Herrera dio sugerencias para mejorar algunos aspectos que tienen relación con el pago de las sanciones de las peleas por campeonato mundial y regional. Previamente, se detalló el aporte en el área médica y sus avances para la AMB.
