Donaire ready for Guerrero
(by Chris Cozzone - Feb 8, 2010 - 8:20:54 AM)

“I’ve never had a fight that I was 100 percent at in Las Vegas . . . .”
That, says Nonito Donaire, will change on February 13.
In what will be his fourth appearance in Las Vegas, Donaire, 22-1, 14 KOs, will defend the interim version of the WBA’s super flyweight championship against Mexico City contender Gerson “El Nene” Guerrero, 34-8, 26 KOs, in the main event of a Top Rank Pay-Per-View card from the Las Vegas Hilton.
“This time around, I’m 100% and confident,” says the “Filipino Flash.”
“I’m going to be floating on air and going with the flow. This camp has brought out the best in me and I’m going to fight without inactivity and distractions.”

Kameda dethrones Kaovichit!
(by Joe Koizumi - Feb 7, 2010 - 8:42:02 AM)

21-year-old Japanese Daiki Kameda (16-2, 11 KOs), 112, captured the WBA flyweight belt as he was awarded a unanimous decision over defending titlist Denkaosen Kaowichit (48-2-1, 20 KOs), Thailand, over twelve lousy rounds in Kobe, Japan. The official tallies were as follows: Stanley Christodoulou (South Africa) and Glenn Feldman (US) both 116-110 and Pascuale Procopio (Canada) 114-112, all for the Japanese challenger. The referee was Lahcen Oumghar (Holland). It was a farce rather than a fight. Kameda slipped down on five occasions, while Denkaosen was penalized twice because of his repeated clinches in the sixth and eleventh. It was one of the very least technical bouts with world championships at stake held here in Japan. We, however, will have to evaluate and celebrate Kameda brothers having conquered the WBA and the WBC belts in the same 112-pound category in 69 days since his elder brother Koki, 23, dethroned WBC ruler Daisuke Naito in Saitama on November 30. Daiki and Koki finally followed the footsteps of Klitschko brothers having dominated the same heavyweight thrones at the same era.

Tenkai Keeps WBA Female 115 belt
(by Joe Koizumi - Feb 7, 2010 - 6:55:56 AM)

Busy-punching and fast-moving Tsunami Tenkai (14-3, 4 KOs), 114, very impressively kept her WBA female super-flyweight belt as she swept all rounds with a beautiful display of speed, skills and power in scoring a nearly shutout decision (100-90 twice and 99-91) over game and durable British challenger Shanee Martin (9-5-1, 5 KOs), also 114, over ten fast rounds on Sunday in Kobe, Japan. The referee was Firlin Marsh of New Zealand. Tenkai, a cute 25-year-old Japanese champ, simply stunned the audience who hadn’t seen so many female boxing bouts by showing her excellent form, reflexes, quickness, skills and stamina. Even this reporter previously thought that Tenkai was only a non-stop warrior, but she completely changed her image tonight so that our people realized that we might be proud of Tenkai being the most outstanding female boxer.

Kaovichit-Kameda make weight
(by Joe Koizumi - Feb 6, 2010 - 12:06:55 PM)

Boxing is a game that healthy young men exchange gloves, but it might be a new tradition that our Japanese contestants often wear a mask to avoid any virus infection. So did Daiki Kameda (15-2, 11 KOs), who will fight a rematch with the WBA flyweight champ Denkaosen Kaowichit (48-1-1, 20 KOs) of Thailand tomorrow (Sunday) in Kobe, Japan. They fought last October to a majority decision (115-113 twice and 114-114) in favor of the 33-year-old veteran Thailander. Since Kameda Promotions strongly asked for a direct rematch, the WBA finally sanctioned it after the convention in Colombia in November. The 21-year-old Daiki, the younger brother of the WBC flyweight kingpin Koki Kameda, attempts to follow the footstep of Klitschko brothers dominating the world belts inthe same category at the same time.
Today there was a weigh-n ceremony, where the champ tipped the beam at 110.75 to the 112-pound class limit for the challenger.
We will see another WBA female super-flyweight title go between defending champ Tsunami Tenkai (13-3, 4 KOs) of Japan and Shanee Martin (9-4-1, 5 KOs) of UK on the same show. Each scaled in at 114, a pound lighter than the class limit.
The WBA officials are as follows:
WBA flyweight title bout: Referee Lahcen Oumghar (Holland); Judges Stanley Christodoulou (South Africa), Pascuale Procopio (Canada) and Glenn Feldman (US).
WBA female super-flyweight title bout;
Referee Ferlin Marsh (New Zealand); judges same as the male title go
The supervisor of both fights is Renzo Bagnariol (Nicaragua).

WBA reviewing Campillo-Shumenov II
(by wbanews.com - Feb 4, 2010 - 9:15:02 AM)

The World Boxing Association will review Saturday night’s controversial light heavyweight title fight between Beibut Shumenov and Gabriel Campillo in Las Vegas. Shumenov won a widely criticized split decision with Nevada Athletic Commission-appointed judges Patrician Jarman 117-111 and Jerry Roth 115-113 scoring in favor of the Shumenov, overruling WBA judge Levi Martínez, who had Campillo ahead 117-111. “Unfortunately due to the Muhammad Ali Law approved by the American Congress and applied in the main jurisdictions where WBA world championships are carried out, they have the freedom to approve and appoint the officials of the fights,” said WBA vice president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza. “I’m not trying to generate a controversy but our judges attend yearly seminars to reduce the possibility of controversy and to do justice in the ring. In this particular fight they only accepted Levi Martínez from the WBA.” He added that a committee of international officials will review video of the fight in approximately the next 15 days.

AMB evaluara video Campillo-Shumenov II
(by wbanews.com - Feb 4, 2010 - 7:34:22 AM)
